the gals got to go herding!
« Thread Started on Aug 14, 2005, 7:32pm »

back at the very end of June as my grad gift I got to take happy and misty to a weekend herding clinic. this was not like the little training things in a round pen with a couple sheep, this was very large rectangular pen with approx. 10 Ewes. Misty did not do bad at all, but she likes to hold the sheep lol but Happy was AMAZING! these were all experienced trainers and trialers and they could not belive that Happy had never seen sheep before, she found balence right away and was doing outruns by her 3rd time, not to mention listening better then the experienced dogs lol my mom said that when I was out there with Happy people watching kept talking about how amazing Happy was, and commenting that Happy makes me look like a really good handler lol and the best part? almost all new dogs and handlers end up stuck along the side or in a cornor, hence why you usually start in a round pen, but not once over the whole weekend did Happy or Misty get stuck on a sid or cornor ;D anyway here are some piccies

Happy-this was her first time on the sheep:

well it was mainly things realating to your own dog and your own handling,it was nothing formal just a group of people who all knew eachother who like to get together and they all get together once a year to brush up on their stuff, the person hosting it invited us after meeting Misty at a seminar. I had always heard that the rainers usually take your dog and you watch, but this was basicly learning on the job lol

Wow! :o Lucky you! 8-) And congrats on your graduation! Your parents must be so proud of you!

And Wow! The pics are fantastic! Your red hair is very prominant in the pen and you look like a pro handler in there! ;D

Good for you!
