It is conducted on every Saturdays betwen 9.30am to 12pm. The pre-requisite is basic obedience trained, particularly on the recall excercise... The duration may take up to 2 years depending on the competency of both dog and handler. Understand from them that a Labrador just started last week and a partner would be welcoming. Hence, decided to bring that monster for a pre-entry test on this coming 1st Oct.I do hope that fuzzy boy is happy now Btw, do drop me a note if any of your pals are bugging you too.... The personnel were not really ready for me as the present voulunteers had recently passed their stage test and i am like kinda outta place. Nevertheless, they got someone to oversee the test phase. First, came the temprement test. Kaiser being a fuzzy boy had no problem with this.. Next was the drive test. Initially, i had a problem deciding between the tennis ball and his favorite tug towel. I was kinda hasitant Kaiser might quickly loose interest in the tennis ball since he has only just started flyball training. Alas, decided on using both. everthing went smoothly, and the tester was satisfied as this would, i guess, minimize their effort in training the dog to gain it's drive, which as stated by him, would take about 2 to 3 weeks. We took a short break and during which, he shared his experience in the recent Tsunami tragedy and how our local SAR dogs performed. Thereafter, he took me for a short tour round the training village and moved on to the "Rubble Maneuvering" test. This was where i realized the trekking sessions i had during Kaiser's early puppyhood proves to have yield its dividends . No serious problem execept for the attire i am in. I guess it would be boots and long rugged pants for me in the next session.By now, the trainer began to notice of Kaiser's vast exposure at such an age and decided to go straight to the "Search Evaluation". I took out his tower tug toy and was told to hide in one of the room. Kaiser was released and was quickly found by that fuzzy boy. Subsequently, i hid in another room and again, was found. By it's way of searching, the trainer was very please to see the potential in this K9. Kaiser had initially gone into the initial first room to search, came out and went to the second room. This, they term it as a "Systematic Scent Search". This will be an advantage to the handler at the advance stage, since all the rooms will be systematically combed by the K9 without having the handler to remember which location has been previously searched. The trainer wanted to confirm this and had asked me to go the the third room to hide. As he releases, was told that this smart breed, literally, went striaght to the second room (The scent in the first room, was gone by then) and then, to the third where he once again found be. The trainer and i exchanged position where i now have to release Kaiser to search for him, and the subsequent actions that took place had me awe struck.. I must say i was amazed by the capabilities of dogs and how they use their nose to pick up the scent in search of things.Kaiser passed the test, and the results will then determine his level. This will position him into a stage best suited. Well..i have not been told what we will be expeting in the next few weeks, but i guess i'll find out next Saturday....and will enjoy the coming sessions ahead!!
